Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) School of Graduate Studies (SGS), has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the postgraduate academic experience by strengthening digital systems, improving administrative processes and promoting the responsible use of emerging technologies.
At a stakeholder engagement session with supervisors and programme coordinators from the Colleges of Science, Art and Built Environment, Engineering and Health Sciences, SGS outlined initiatives aimed at streamlining postgraduate supervision, thesis management and student progression.
Dr. Henry Martin, a lecturer at the Department of Physics, underscored the importance of digital literacy among postgraduate students, urging them to safeguard their essential login credentials to ensure uninterrupted access to academic platforms and official communication channels.
“These credentials are fundamental tools that support students throughout their academic journey,” he said.
He highlighted the introduction of a self-paced Artificial Intelligence (AI) course tailored for postgraduate students across disciplines, noting that the zero-credit course offers flexibility, allowing students to complete modules at their convenience.
“AI is transforming every field. This course ensures our students are well-prepared to engage with these technologies responsibly,” he stressed. “The course equips students with practical knowledge on ethical and effective AI usage, particularly in research and academic writing.”
Dr. Martin also reaffirmed SGS’s emphasis on maintaining academic quality through clearly defined roles for supervisors, internal examiners and external collaborators.
The engagement further provided clarification on programme durations and academic progression within KNUST’s approved academic calendar framework.

Deputy Director of SGS, Professor Godfred Darko, acknowledged recent improvements to the Thesis and Dissertation Management System (TDMS), now renamed the Academic Lifecycle Management and Analytic Engine (ALMA). He said the platform continues to play a vital role in improving efficiency, transparency and communication.
“We are pleased with the steady improvements and growing adoption of the system,” he said, commending the University’s IT team for their dedication.
He reaffirmed SGS’s commitment to collaboration and accessibility.
“If you encounter challenges, reach out,” he advised.
